Ever dream of being an astronaut? Let this amazing camp launch your dreams into orbit as you begin to train like the best at NASA. This incredible camp offers campers the chance to fulfill their dreams of space exploration, aviation and engineering.  Campers sharpen analytical skills and problem solving techniques in an entertaining and inspiring environment surrounded by friends and hands-on activities.  Learning and understanding are products of experience and in Astronaut Academy aspiring astronauts will experience it all! We begin our action filled camp with our version of “survival training” at the University of Nebraska Lincoln outdoor recreation facilities ropes course.  This challenging course focuses camper’s attention on team building activities and problem solving techniques all while being suspended 45 feet in the air!  That’s not the only activity that puts campers in the sky. A private tour of Nebraska’s largest observatory, Behlen observatory, provides an up-close look at very distant worlds.  Campers also learn the details of the engineering and technical edge that NASA scientists must achieve as they tour the University of Nebraska’s engineering and robotics lab.  Get a cliff hanging view of rovers designed to explore the mountains and valleys of the Mars terrain in UNL’s rover lab, and then try your hand at designing and operating your own rover.

Our most exciting activity happens neither on land nor in the air but in the depths of the water while participants experience what it’s truly like to be an astronaut in space…being weightless.  Campers experience the excitement of weightlessness in our Scuba diving activity in which campers learn the basics of Scuba and then accept underwater ‘missions’ to recover and repair ‘satellites and space shuttles.’  This awesome activity show campers what training is like at NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab.

Astronaut Academy is specially designed for campers ages 13-16.  During our weeklong camp, campers live at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus and have the chance to sleep one night in the C-119 Cargo plane at the Museum.  This exciting camp is sure to keep campers eager and on the edge of their seats!
